ELLEN ARCHER
President, Hyperion
Ellen Archer is President of Hyperion, where she is responsible for the direction, management and performance of the publishing group. Specializing in fiction and non-fiction for adults, Hyperion has published more than 1,500 books since its inception, of which more than 100 have been national bestsellers.
Ms. Archer joined Hyperion in April 1999 as Vice President and Associate Publisher. In April 2001 she was promoted to Vice President, Publisher, and in May 2005 was promoted to Senior Vice President, Publisher. During her nine years at Hyperion, she has conceived and directed a wide variety of bestselling campaigns, including Mitch Albom’s No. 1 bestseller, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and For One More Day; Candace Bushnell’s Trading Up and Lipstick Jungle; and JR Moehringer’s memoir, The Tender Bar. In 2006 Ms. Archer created Voice, a new imprint of fiction and non-fiction books targeting women in mid-life who are passionate about reading Two recent national bestsellers from Voice include The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff and The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan.
Prior to joining The Walt Disney Company, Ms. Archer was Vice President and Associate Publisher at the Ballantine Publishing Group, a division of Random House. There she created and implemented marketing campaigns for a wide-ranging list of titles. Before Ballantine, she was Vice President and Director of Publicity at Doubleday, where she helped launch John Grisham’s career.
A 24-year publishing veteran, Ms. Archer is an Advisory Board member of NYU’s Masters in Publishing program. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Hamilton College and currently resides in New York City with her husband and two sons.
