VINCE ROBERTS
Executive Vice President, Worldwide Technology and Operations, Disney-ABC Television Group
Vince Roberts is executive vice president, Worldwide Technology and Operations, Disney-ABC Television Group, a position he was promoted to in April 2005. In this role Mr. Roberts is responsible for the global technical and operational strategic direction and ongoing management of over 90 television broadcast feeds from 16 regional broadcast centers, digital media distribution, Media Computing, and IT functions across the Disney-ABC Television Group, including Disney Channel Worldwide, Disney XD, Playhouse Disney, SOAPnet and ABC Family; and Disney ABC International Television, including, Disney-branded networks in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Japan and Canada. In addition, he is responsible for all shared service technical support for Disney-ABC Domestic Television, Disney-ABC International Television, Walt Disney Television Animation and Radio Disney network origination, including all 38 radio stations.
A founding employee of Disney Channel, Mr. Roberts joined the network in 1983 as a staff engineer, and then went on to serve as director of Operations and Engineering. In 1989, after a two-year stint as senior vice president of Color Systems, Inc., he rejoined Disney Channel as vice president, Engineering and Operations. During his tenure with Disney, he led an extraordinarily talented group of engineers, managers and operational specialists developing one of the country's first video file server-based broadcast operations. Mr. Roberts was also responsible for establishing Disney's first international broadcast operation - Walt Disney Television Singapore - launching Disney Channel Taiwan in March of 1995. Later that year he played a key role in developing Disney Channel's first technical facilities operation in the UK.
Mr. Roberts currently serves on several internal and industry organizations focusing on innovation, technology development and business efficiency. He continues to play a key role in helping develop Disney's future technology strategy initiatives.
Prior to joining Disney, Mr. Roberts spent four years in videodisc R&D and manufacturing with MCA and JVC/EMI/GE. While at MCA he was awarded a patent for developing a specialized quality control process device. During his time at Color Systems Technology as senior vice president of Production, the company was awarded an Emmy for technical achievement for the video coloring process. He was also a field engineer/cameraperson for CBS News.
Mr. Roberts is a Member of The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE) and a Member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is also an Advisor to the Entertainment Technology Center at USC.
